Echocardiographic, Biochemical, and Electrocardiographic Correlates Associated With Progressive Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Ahmed Zaky et al.

Summary: Distinct electrocardiographic and echocardiographic patterns along with plasma biomarkers were identified as useful non-invasive tools for monitoring PAH progression. Changes in cardiac function and myocardial and pulmonary vascular structure can be observed through these non-invasive methods during the course of PAH.

Alteration of sphingosine-1-phosphate with aging induces contractile dysfunction of colonic smooth muscle cells via Ca2+-activated K+ channel (BKCa) upregulation

Xiaoxue Shen et al.

Summary: The study found that S1P and S1PR2 participate in age-associated contractile dysfunction by upregulating BKCa through PKC zeta, JNK, and NF-kappa B pathways. Additionally, S1P levels, S1PR2, and BKCa expressions were upregulated while p-MLC expression was downregulated in colonic tissues in an age-dependent manner.

Galectin-3 participates in PASMC migration and proliferation by interacting with TGF-β1

Nan Cao et al.

Summary: Gal-3 has been implicated in pulmonary vascular remodelling, and studies suggest that it interacts with TGF-beta 1 to regulate the Smad2/3 signalling pathway, ultimately impacting the proliferation and migration of HPASMC and possibly influencing the development of pulmonary hypertension.

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Stimulated Migration of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells into an Injectable Gelatin-Hydroxyphenyl Propionic Acid Matrix

Wanting Niu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the high viability of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (bMSCs) in Gelatin-hydroxyphenyl propionic acid (Gtn-HPA) covalent cross-linking gelation. The incorporation of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB directly into the gel or released from polyelectrolyte complex nanoparticles (PCNs) stimulated bMSC migration and proliferation effectively. Stromal cell-derived factor (SDF)-1 alpha enhanced migration and proliferation when released from PCNs, highlighting the potential of using Gtn-HPA/PDGF-BB as an injectable therapeutic agent for musculoskeletal tissue defects.

Antihypertensive Effect of a Novel Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker Fluorophenyl Benzimidazole: Contribution of cGMP, Voltage-dependent Calcium Channels, and BKCa Channels to Vasorelaxant Mechanisms

Hina Iqbal et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel angiotensin II receptor blocker FPD as an antihypertensive agent in the SHR model of hypertension. FPD effectively decreased blood pressure in SHR, relaxed superior mesenteric arteries, and inhibited angiotensin II-induced contraction by increasing tissue cGMP levels, inhibiting L-type calcium channels, and opening BKCa channels. Moreover, FPD showed good safety in toxicity evaluation and demonstrated potential as a vasorelaxant with cGMP, L-type calcium channels, and BKCa channels as putative targets.

Luteolin Ameliorates Experimental Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension via Suppressing Hippo-YAP/PI3K/AKT Signaling Pathway

Wanyun Zuo et al.

Summary: In this study, luteolin was found to have a beneficial effect on pulmonary arterial hypertension, possibly through inhibiting the HIPPO-YAP/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Therefore, luteolin may become a promising candidate for the treatment of PAH.

Using pulmonary artery acceleration time to evaluate pulmonary hemodynamic changes on preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome

Liling Wang et al.

Summary: This study revealed that preterm infants with RDS receiving PS therapy had significantly lower PAAT and PAAT/RVET compared to the control group at 36 weeks postmenstrual age. The control group showed significant increases in PAAT and PAAT/RVET over time after birth. This suggests that PAAT may be a reliable non-invasive measure for evaluating pulmonary hemodynamics in preterm infants with RDS and late PVD.
