A critical discussion of different methods and models in Casimir effect

Iver Brevik et al.

Summary: The Casimir-Lifhitz force is a macroscopic manifestation of van der Waals forces between atoms and molecules. It cannot be described using a strictly real dielectric function. The study of this force has two different approaches, one focusing on internal fluctuations of the bodies and the other based on eigenmodes of the field.

Wading through the void: Exploring quantum friction and nonequilibrium fluctuations

D. Reiche et al.

Summary: This article discusses the drag force, known as quantum friction, experienced by two or more objects moving relative to each other in a vacuum. This contactless non-conservative interaction is mediated by fluctuations in the material-modified quantum electrodynamic vacuum and is purely quantum in nature. Extensive research has been conducted, stimulating the development of both theoretical and experimental approaches.

Casimir Puzzle and Casimir Conundrum: Discovery and Search for Resolution

Vladimir M. Mostepanenko

Summary: This paper reviews the complicated problems in Lifshitz theory describing the Casimir force between real material plates made of metals and dielectrics. Experimental data exclude the theoretical Casimir forces calculated within the framework of Lifshitz theory, leading to the proposal of various approaches to resolve this issue.
