NiMo@C3N5 heterostructures with multiple electronic transmission channels for highly efficient hydrogen evolution from alkaline electrolytes and seawater

Summary: In this study, a unique heterostructure catalyst composed of NiMo cores and C3N5 shells was designed and demonstrated to exhibit stable and efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance in alkaline electrolytes and seawater. The carbon-based shell effectively protects the catalyst core from seawater poisoning. Experimental and theoretical results reveal that the interface between NiMo cores and C3N5 shells establishes multiple electronic transmission channels, providing optimized HER pathways with reduced energy barriers for the rate-determining step.
