The Method of Fundamental Solutions for Two- and Three-Dimensional Transient Heat Conduction Problems Involving Point and Curved Line Heat Sources

Mehrdad Mohammadi

Summary: This paper introduces a method of fundamental solutions (MFS) for solving transient heat conduction problems involving concentrated heat sources with time- and space-dependent intensities. By using a combination of time-dependent fundamental solutions and particular solutions, accurate results can be achieved with a small number of source points and a large size time step, compared to the finite element method (FEM) solution.

Solving steady-state lid-driven square cavity flows at high Reynolds numbers via a coupled improved element-free Galerkin-reduced integration penalty method

Juan C. Alvarez Hostos et al.

Summary: This communication presents the solution of steady-state two-dimensional lid-driven square cavity flows at high Reynolds numbers using a velocity-based formulation developed in the context of the improved element-free Galerkin-reduced integration penalty method (IEFG-RIPM). The analysis demonstrates excellent agreement with mesh-based solutions reported in the literature, showing the potential of IEFG-RIPM as a feasible and reliable numerical technique for such benchmark problems.

Summary: In this work, a fully coupled thermo-mechanical meshfree approach is developed for simulating the solid-state layer-by-layer additive manufacturing process AFS-D. The method uses a Lagrangian reference frame and solid mechanics formulation to resolve elastic and plastic strains. The simulation results are compared against experimental results for calibration, revealing temperature and strain rate gradients in the AFS-D process.

Summary: A numerical model for transient heat transfer analysis of orthotropic phase change materials using the Element-Free Galerkin method is proposed in this study. The validity and advantages of the model are verified by experimental results and numerical examples. Factors influencing the phase change heat transfer process are studied, and suggested reasonable values for thermal conductivity factor and off-angle are provided for different applications.
