A coupled 3D wear and fatigue numerical procedure: Application to fretting problems in ultra-high strength steel wires

I. Llavori et al.

Summary: This study presents a coupled 3D wear and fatigue numerical procedure for fretting problems in ultra-high strength steel wires. Experimental campaigns were conducted to assess fretting fatigue lifetime, and the numerical results showed good agreement with the experimental results. The study provides a 3D numerical methodology to study the combined effects of wear and fatigue in fretting, with a case study in ultra-high strength steel wires.

Experimental and numerical fretting fatigue using a new test fixture

Steffen L. Sunde et al.

Summary: A unique dovetail-based test fixture for fretting fatigue was designed and demonstrated with combined experimental and numerical campaigns. Analysis of fretting fatigue damage was correlated with numerical analyses using a modern Ruiz formulation and Findley critical plane parameter. Initial test results showed that a simple critical plane model correlated life and cracking direction with experiments, with the Ruiz parameter acting only as a hot-spot indicator.

A novel predictive model for multiaxial fatigue in carburized bevel gears

Stephan Andre Bohme et al.

Summary: This publication focuses on numerical stress prediction and fatigue assessment for case-carburized bevel gears by analyzing four gear sets for common fatigue failure modes. The proposed algorithm relies on a previously published material model for carburized CrNiMo steels and utilizes a 2D plane strain simplification to evaluate shear mean and amplitude stresses. Additionally, a novel multiaxial fatigue criterion is presented and validated in this study.

Evaluation of data sets usable for validating multiaxial fatigue strength criteria

Jan Papuga et al.

Summary: This paper establishes clear rules for evaluating experimental data for validating multiaxial fatigue strength criteria, aiming to identify and eliminate data that could lead to erroneous conclusions, hide trends, or introduce bias. Various reasons for rejecting specific data sets are provided and two appendices list accepted and rejected data sources.
