Modeling of temperature-dependent ultimate tensile strength for metallic materials

Yi He et al.

Summary: This study proposed a method to model the temperature-dependent ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of metallic materials and derived two models considering the effect of strain hardening behavior. The models achieved good agreement with experimental results and revealed intrinsic relationships between temperature, strength coefficient, and other parameters.

A theoretical model for predicting the temperature-dependent fatigue crack propagation threshold of nickel-based superalloys

Yi He et al.

Summary: In this study, fatigue crack propagation was considered from an energy perspective and a temperature-dependent crack fatigue propagation criterion was proposed. A model for temperature-dependent fatigue crack propagation threshold in superalloys was developed, and it showed good agreement with experimental data. The research results have potential applications in aero-engine structural integrity studies.

High-temperature mechanical properties and fatigue of nanocrystalline nickel-cobalt-phosphorous (NiCoP) alloy

Nilesh Badwe et al.

Summary: The high-temperature mechanical properties of nanocrystalline nickel-cobalt-phosphorous (NiCoP) alloy were studied using a novel mechanical testing setup enabling testing up to 300 degrees C. The alloy was found to maintain 90% of its strength at 130 degrees C and have > 1 GPa tensile strength at 200 degrees C. Fatigue performance showed minimal degradation between room temperature and 200 degrees C, with an endurance limit of 750-825 MPa. Abnormal grain growth leading to fatigue fracture was observed through microstructure characterization.

Theoretical prediction of size and dimension dependent critical temperature for ferroelectric, ferromagnetic and superconductive nanomaterials

Pan Dong et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the phase transition of nanomaterials using interface energy and internal energy, and establishes a theoretical model without fitting parameters to quantify the influence of size on critical transition temperature. The model shows good agreement with experimental results of various nanomaterials and reveals quantitative relationships between critical temperature, melting enthalpy, melting point, and atomic diameter. The model can predict the change trend of critical temperature with size and the critical size at which ferroelectric properties of ferroelectric materials disappear.

Tensile and very high cycle fatigue behaviors of a compressor blade titanium alloy at room and high temperatures

Fulin Liu et al.

Summary: The tensile and fatigue behaviors of TC17 titanium alloy at room temperature and high temperature were studied, where it was found that the tensile strength decreases at high temperature while the elongation remains unchanged. The fatigue S-N curves and failure mode also change with temperature, with the crack initiation mainly attributed to the brittle oxygen-enriched subsurface (BOES) layer at high temperatures.

Modeling the temperature dependent ultimate tensile strength of fiber/polymer composites considering fiber agglomeration

Mengqing Yang et al.

Summary: A temperature dependent ultimate tensile strength model for polymer composites reinforced with fibers was developed based on the Force-Heat Equivalence Energy Density Principle and Halpin-Tsai model, showing accurate predictions with only basic material parameters needed. The model quantitatively describes the evolution of thermo-physical performance of fibers and polymers with temperature, and has been validated through comparison with experimental results for a wide range of conditions. Additionally, an analysis of the effect of fiber agglomeration on composite strength was conducted.
