This study provides a convenient and highly effective method for enhancing power output and Cr(VI) reduction in biocathode MFCs.

Microbial fuel cell for oilfield produced water treatment and reuse: Modelling and process optimization

Summary: In this study, oilfield produced water was treated in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) using response surface methodology and central composite design (RSM/CCD) to optimize the process. The effects of two parameters, SPEEK and nanocomposite (CNT/Pt), on COD removal and power generation were discussed, with XRD, SEM, TEM, and NMR used for analysis. Results showed that under optimized conditions of DS=80 and CNT/Pt of 14 wt% CNT- 86 wt% Pt, the MFC could remove 92% of COD and generate 545 mW/m(2) of power density.

Nanocomposite cation-exchange membranes for wastewater electrodialysis: organic fouling, desalination performance, and toxicity testing

Summary: The use of PEI-TiO2 and PEI-GO nanocomposites for modifying membranes resulted in enhanced antifouling properties and improved desalination efficiency during electrodialysis. Additionally, long-term fouling experiments with wastewater effluent showed superior antifouling capacity of nanocomposite membranes, especially the PEI-GO membrane.
