Efficient Zn Metal Anode Enabled by O,N-Codoped Carbon Microflowers

Zhixiao Xu et al.

Summary: By synthesizing an oxygen- and nitrogen-codoped carbon superstructure, the efficient host for high-DOD Zn metal anodes was created. The flower-shaped carbon (C-flower) host with microscale 3D hierarchical structures and zincophilic heteroatom dopants can guide Zn nucleation and growth, enabling horizontal plating with high Coulombic efficiency and long life.

Two-step nitrogen and sulfur doping in porous carbon dodecahedra for Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitors with long term stability

Ying Yang et al.

Summary: Aqueous Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitors (ZHSCs) have the potential to be highly efficient energy storage devices due to their high theoretical capacity, low cost, and intrinsic safety. However, the lack of efficient cathode materials for reversible insertion/extraction of Zn2+ ions has posed a significant challenge to achieving high cycling-stability ZHSCs. In this study, researchers developed a facile two-step doping strategy to synthesize N, S-codoped porous carbon dodecahedra (N, S-PCD) as a high-performance cathode material for ultralong-life aqueous ZHSC. The N, S-PCD cathode demonstrated a specific capacity of 133.4 mA h-1 (300.2 F g-1) at 0.2 A g(-1) and a maximum energy density of 106.7 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 160 W kg-1. Furthermore, the ZHSC showed an ultra-long cycle life, retaining 97.1% capacity after 100,000 charge-discharge cycles (approximately 3960 hours), which is the longest lifespan reported for ZHSCs to date. Mechanism studies revealed that the dual-doping of N and S enhanced the chemical adsorption of Zn2+ ions and improved electronic conductivity, synergistically enhancing the Zn-ion storage performance.

Regulating zinc electroplating chemistry to achieve high energy coaxial fiber Zn ion supercapacitor for self-powered textile-based monitoring system

Jingxin Zhao et al.

Summary: Coaxial fiber-shaped Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitors (CFZHSCs) are promising electrochemical energy storage devices for flexible and wearable electronics with high power/energy density, long cycle life, splendid mechanical stability, and high safety. The development of a highly reversible fiber-shaped Zn anode with controlled deposition morphology significantly improves the electrochemical performance of the devices. The CFZHSCs device exhibits a larger volumetric specific capacitance and a higher volumetric energy density compared to other devices, along with excellent capacitance retention and mechanical flexibility. In addition, the integration of the CFZHSCs device with a triboelectric nanogenerator enables a self-powered textile-based monitoring system for stable temperature detection.

Theoretical and experimental investigation of the wet-spinning process for mechanically strong carbon nanotube fibers

Hyeon Dam Jeong et al.

Summary: The orientation factor plays a crucial role in producing highly strong conductive carbon nanotube (CNT) fibers. A theoretical model is proposed to obtain well-aligned CNT fibers with superior properties through wet-spinning of CNTs in a superacid. The model predicts the minimum draw ratio for achieving target orientation and stable operation window using linear stability analysis of the draw resonance.

Estimating carbon nanotube length from isotropic cloud point of carbon nanotube/chlorosulfonic acid solutions

Haemin Lee et al.

Summary: This study presents a shortcut method based on the isotropic-cloud point of CNT/CSA solutions to characterize the average length of carbon nanotubes. The empirical relationship between the aspect ratio of CNTs and the isotropic-cloud point of CNT/CSA solutions was established and shown to be accurate for long CNTs. This method may contribute to controlled growth and fabrication of CNT materials with desired properties.
