Zircon age depth-profiling sheds light on the early Caledonian evolution of the Seve Nappe Complex in west-central Jamtland

Katarzyna Walczak et al.

Summary: This study provides the first record of the early Caledonian event in the southern Scandinavian Caledonides. The evidence was obtained through depth profiling of zircon grains. The results suggest that the entire outer margin of Baltica underwent deep subduction in the late Cambrian to early Ordovician, with the record of this event being largely erased by subsequent metamorphism.

Vestiges of the Pre-Caledonian Passive Margin of Baltica in the Scandinavian Caledonides: Overview, Revisions and Control on the Structure of the Mountain Belt

Torgeir B. Andersen et al.

Summary: The Pre-Caledonian margin of Baltica in the Scandes exhibits complexities similar to modern margins, with features such as a microcontinent and different segments with varying magma content. The exhumed mantle peridotites and rocks from hyperextension before orogeny indicate a complex evolutionary history in this region.
