Future changes in precipitation extremes over Southeast Asia: insights from CMIP6 multi-model ensemble

Fei Ge et al.

Summary: Past assessments have shown that precipitation extremes in Southeast Asia are expected to intensify under global warming. Using outputs from 15 climate models, it was found that projected changes in precipitation extremes for Southeast Asia at the end of the 21st century are linked to rising greenhouse gas emissions. It is likely that more precipitation extremes will occur in a warmer future, especially over the Indochina Peninsula and the Maritime Continent.

Evaluation of CMIP6 precipitation simulations across different climatic zones: Uncertainty and model intercomparison

Farhad Yazdandoost et al.

Summary: This study examines the performance of CMIP6 historical simulations on precipitation estimates in Iran's climatic regions, finding significant variability in model reliability across different climate zones. Each CMIP6 model appears to be more suitable for specific climatic zones, with some models performing well in arid regions but not in humid zones, and vice versa. The results highlight the importance of selecting appropriate models for different climate zones.

Independent ENSO and IOD impacts on rainfall extremes over Indonesia

Ari Kurniadi et al.

Summary: This study uses Generalized Extreme Value analysis to investigate the independent seasonal impacts of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) on rainfall extremes in Indonesia. The study finds that the impacts are strongest during dry seasons and weaker during wet seasons. ENSO and IOD can make extreme climate conditions drier or wetter in Indonesia.

Comparison of CMIP6 and CMIP5 models in simulating mean and extreme precipitation over East Africa

Brian Ayugi et al.

Summary: This study examines the improvements in simulating mean and extreme precipitation in East Africa using the CMIP6 models compared to CMIP5. The results show that the CMIP6 models have better performance in simulating seasonal rainfall, but there is still uncertainty and a need for further investigation into the sources of systematic biases.

Evaluation of CMIP6 GCM rainfall in mainland Southeast Asia

Zafar Iqbal et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of 35 GCMs of CMIP6 in replicating rainfall in Mainland South-East Asia. Most models were able to capture the rainfall climatology of the region, but their performance varied in terms of different metrics. The study identified MRI-ESM2-0, EC-Earth3 and EC-Earth3-Veg as the most suitable subset of GCMs for rainfall projections in MSEA.

Evaluation of extreme precipitation over Asia in CMIP6 models

Tianyun Dong et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the performance of CMIP5 and CMIP6 models in simulating extreme precipitation indices over Asia, highlighting significant improvements in CMIP6 models. Models such as HadCM3, EC-Earth3, and ECMWF-IFS demonstrate relatively good performance in simulating extreme precipitation events. Compared to CMIP5, CMIP6 shows reduced dry biases in Southern China and India, as well as improved wet biases in Tibet.

Extreme Rainfall and Hydro-Geo-Meteorological Disaster Risk in 1.5, 2.0, and 4.0?C Global Warming Scenarios: An Analysis for Brazil

Jose A. Marengo et al.

Summary: Based on a combination of empirical and climate models, this study projected changes to climate and hydro-geo-meteorological disasters in Brazil, showing an increased risk of landslides and floods with rising temperatures. Southern and Southeastern regions of Brazil are particularly vulnerable, while the eastern portion of the Northeast also faces high risks. The importance of environmental policies, monitoring, and early warning systems for disaster risk reduction management is highlighted.
