3D printing of artificial skin patches with bioactive and optically active polymer materials for anti-infection and augmenting wound repair

Hao Zhao et al.

Summary: A printable ink composed of a photoactive cationic conjugated poly(phenylene vinylene) derivative and gelatin/alginate/hyaluronic acid has been developed for 3D printing artificial skin patches. This patch demonstrates excellent photodynamic therapy-based anti-infection capabilities and remarkable bioactivity, contributing to wound repair. This study aims to design new conjugated polymer inks for manufacturing functional skin patches.

Advances in Skin Wound and Scar Repair by Polymer Scaffolds

Shuiqing Zhou et al.

Summary: This review explores the functions and roles of multiple polymer scaffolds in wound healing and scar inhibition, including polysaccharide and protein scaffolds acting as templates for cell adhesion and migration, as well as stem cell-seeded and growth factors-loaded scaffolds providing bioactive substances. Special emphasis is placed on scaffolds that continuously release oxygen, which significantly accelerates the vascularization process and offers hope for scarless healing.

Injectable thioketal-containing hydrogel dressing accelerates skin wound healing with the incorporation of reactive oxygen species scavenging and growth factor release

Zhen An et al.

Summary: This study developed a ROS-responsive injectable polyethylene glycol hydrogel containing thioketal bonds to deliver epidermal growth factor (EGF), effectively scavenging excessive ROS and controlling EGF release for wound regeneration. The EGF@PEG-TK hydrogel treatment showed benefits in protecting cells from oxidative stress, accelerating wound closure, and reducing scar formation in full-thickness skin defects, providing a promising strategy for antioxidant hydrogel dressing to facilitate wound repair.
