Multi-scale three-domain approach for coupling free flow and flow in porous media including droplet-related interface processes

Sina Ackermann et al.

Summary: Drops on a free-flow/porous-medium-flow interface play a strong role in mass, momentum, and energy exchange between two macroscopic flow regimes. A three-domain approach has been developed to model droplet-related processes and compute the drop-covered interface area fraction that affects coupling fluxes. Further extensions are needed to more accurately represent the influence on free flow.
