Discovery of Electrides in Electron-Rich Non-Electride Materials via Energy Modification of Interstitial Electrons

Kun Li et al.

Summary: The energy of interstitial electrons in a non-electride Hf5Si3 is successfully modified through atom replacement, resulting in the discovery of a previously unknown electride Ca3Hf2Si3. The formation of the electride is strongly influenced by the neighboring cations of interstitial electrons. Furthermore, a principle for electride formation in multi-cation materials is proposed, leading to the development of 34 dynamically stable ternary electrides.

Mayenite-Based Electride C12A7e-: A Reactivity and Stability Study

Sebastian Weber et al.

Summary: The study investigated the application of plasma-arc-melting synthesized C12A7e(-) as supports of Ru/C12A7e(-) catalysts in ammonia synthesis up to pressures of 7.6 MPa. The catalysts showed immediate deactivation at pressures > 1 MPa, attributed to irreversible hydride formation at higher pressures. Structural changes in the material in the presence of H2O were also studied in depth.

Electron-Deficient-Type Electride Ca5Pb3: Extension of Electride Chemical Space

Kun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the electron-deficient compound Ca5Pb3 can be transformed into electrides by applying external pressure or strain, expanding the research scope. Electron doping via Hf substitution of Ca atoms can tune the interstitial electron density under ambient pressure, resulting in a new stable ternary electride.
