Mechanochromic luminescent property and anti-counterfeiting application of AIE-active cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes featuring a fused five-six-membered metallacycle

Hua-Hong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed pinene-containing Pt(II) complexes and confirmed their structures through experimental and characterization techniques. These complexes exhibited aggregation-induced emission in aqueous solution and showed different mechanochromic luminescent behaviors. The study also found that the structure and luminescent properties of the complexes can undergo reversible changes by applying mechanical force. Additionally, the possibility of applying these compounds in anti-counterfeiting applications was explored.

Yun Ma et al.

Summary: A new platinum(II) complex-based soft salt S1 was designed and synthesized, showing self-assembly properties and low-energy absorption and emission characteristics. Morphological transformation from undefined nanosized aggregates to nanofibers was achieved by altering solvent compositions, and a luminescent polymer film with color-changing properties upon heating was successfully prepared. The high-level anti-counterfeiting application of S1 was demonstrated using a time-resolved imaging technique, showcasing potential for smart luminescent materials development.

Mechanochromic luminescence properties of fluoro-substituted pinene-containing cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes with multiple triplet excited states

Qian-Ying Yang et al.

Summary: The study explores the structure-mechanochromism relationship with respect to packing patterns and intermolecular interactions affected by the number and location of -F. Mechanochromic luminescence was observed in yellow solids, with the change in multiple triplet excited states accounting for the phenomenon. Mechanical force perturbed molecular packing, leading to the formation of aggregates with effective interactions in the amorphous phase and variation of excited states. The reversible mechanochromic luminescence could be cycled without noticeable performance degradation, providing insight for designing materials with multicolor and multicomponent responses.

Modulation of luminescence properties for [cyclometalated]-PtII(isocyanide) complexes upon co-crystallisation with halosubstituted perfluorinated arenes

Svetlana A. Katkova et al.

Summary: Phosphorescent PtII-based cyclometalated complexes co-crystallize with bromo- and iodosubstituted perfluorinated arenes to form 1:1 adducts. X-FArenes act as both sigma h and pi h donors in these co-crystals, leading to cooperative C-XCl-Pt XBs and pi hdz2[PtII] contacts. The study of solid-state photophysics revealed a significant increase in luminescence quantum yield up to 2-fold upon co-crystallization due to the formation of cooperative noncovalent interactions.
