Extremely Efficient Uranium Removal from Aqueous Environments with Polyurea-Cross-Linked Alginate Aerogel Beads

Efthalia Georgiou et al.

Summary: The removal of uranium(VI) from laboratory and environmental waters using polyurea-cross-linked calcium alginate (X-alginate) aerogels has been investigated. The experimental data revealed that the material has high adsorption capacity for uranium(VI) and the adsorption process is endothermic, entropy-driven, and follows the Langmuir isotherm model. The FTIR data and EDS analysis confirm the results of the batch experiments.

An efficient adsorbent for the removal of Zn2+ Cd2+ and Hg2+ from the real industrial effluents

D. Chauhan et al.

Summary: The meta-benziporphodimethene (meta-BPDM) ligand immobilized in polyacrylamide/carboxymethyl guar gum (PAM/CMG) hydrogel is highly efficient for selectively removing Zn2+, Cd2+, and Hg2+ ions from water, with the best adsorption occurring at pH 6.5. Adsorption equilibrium was reached in 8 hours for Zn2+, 12 hours for Cd2+, and 6 hours for Hg2+. The hydrogel demonstrated superior adsorption capacity and selectivity, especially towards Hg2+ ions.

Graphene Oxide-Chitosan Composites for Water Treatment from Copper Cations

Natalia Politaeva et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the use of modern sorption materials for wastewater treatment, specifically materials based on graphene and chitosan. It explores the production and application of composite sorbents and highlights the enhanced properties of using graphene oxide as a filler in the polymer matrix. Additionally, the unique sorption, chelate-forming, ion-exchange, and complex-forming properties of chitosan are discussed. The paper concludes by presenting the high extraction efficiency of heavy metals, dyes, and pharmaceutical compounds achieved by composite adsorbents based on graphene oxide and chitosan.
