Ascorbic Acid Enhances Growth and Yield of Sweet Peppers (Capsicum annum) by Mitigating Salinity Stress

Hossam S. El-Beltagi et al.

Summary: Salinity is a major global issue affecting crop productivity. This study found that foliar application of ascorbic acid can mitigate the negative effects of salt stress on sweet peppers. A concentration of 1.20 mM of ascorbic acid can improve growth, productivity, and enzymatic activity of sweet peppers under salt conditions up to 70 mM of sodium chloride (NaCl).

Screening of Salt-Tolerant Rice Landraces by Seedling Stage Phenotyping and Dissecting Biochemical Determinants of Tolerance Mechanism

Md. Rasel et al.

Summary: Genetic diversity is a valuable resource for crop improvement, as demonstrated in a study focusing on identifying potential salt-tolerant rice genotypes. Through screening and analysis, it was found that certain landraces exhibited high salt tolerance, clustered together in growth parameter analysis, and displayed advantages in principle component analysis.

Screening salt-tolerant rice at the seedling and reproductive stages: An effective and reliable approach

Raisa Tabassum et al.

Summary: Screening salt-tolerant rice genotypes using a variety of methods, M-19 was identified as the most suitable candidate for breeding salt-tolerant high-yielding rice varieties due to its excellent yield response and salt tolerance. The accuracy and reliability of these methods were ensured by principal component analysis and seedling stage molecular assay.

Early Growth Stage Characterization and the Biochemical Responses for Salinity Stress in Tomato

Md Sarowar Alam et al.

Summary: The study found that salinity stress led to a significant decrease in morphological and physiological characteristics in tomato seedlings, with certain tolerant genotypes showing less decline. Through PCA and clustering analysis, tomato accessions were classified into different clusters, with tolerant genotypes forming their own cluster. Enhancing salt tolerance through increased proline content and antioxidant activities represents a potential biochemical basis for salt stress tolerance.
