Substorms inject low-energy particles into the inner magnetosphere and contribute to the generation of plasma waves. Transients in the solar wind compress the magnetosphere, leading to geomagnetic storms and changes in the energetic electron population in the radiation belts. The SPeCIMEN project aims to predict and specify the inner magnetospheric environment based on solar input, gathering scientists worldwide to achieve this goal.
