Impact of PNPase on the transcriptome of Rhodobacter sphaeroides and its cooperation with RNase III and RNase E

Daniel-Timon Spanka et al.

Summary: The PNPase protein plays a crucial role in maintaining proper RNA levels and decay within bacterial cells by acting as both an exoribonuclease and catalyzing the elongation of RNA molecules. The study reveals that PNPase influences the transcriptome of R. sphaeroides, showing differential effects on regulatory sRNAs and RNA processing. Additionally, PNPase was found to degrade a significant number of RNA 3' ends and has sequential processing with RNase E and RNase III-dependent RNA ends.
