Hydrate-Based Carbon Capture Process: Assessment of Various Packed Bed Systems for Boosted Kinetics of Hydrate Formation

Amit Arora et al.

Summary: The study examined the hydrate-based carbon dioxide capture process using various packed bed media to enhance the kinetics of hydrate formation with pure CO2. Silica gel with 100 nm pore size showed the best kinetic performance, achieving a water to hydrate conversion of 28 mol% in 3 hours. The results provide a solid foundation for further research in carbon dioxide capture and storage and gas hydrate fields.

An assessment of methane gas production from natural gas hydrates: Challenges, technology and market outlook

Rashid Shaibu et al.

Summary: Natural gas hydrates are a vast energy resource found in permafrost and deep ocean sediments, but commercial production remains a challenge due to technical, environmental, and economic factors, including competition from cheap gas sources. Depressurization method is considered the most feasible option for extracting methane gas from hydrate deposits.

Effects of Graphene Oxide Nanosheets and Al2O3 Nanoparticles on CO2 Uptake in Semi-clathrate Hydrates

Hussein Hassan et al.

Summary: Gas hydrate/clathrate hydrate formation is an innovative method to trap CO2 into hydrate cages under appropriate thermodynamic and/or kinetic conditions. Nanoparticles, such as graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets and Al2O3 nanoparticles, can be utilized as effective kinetic promoters for hydrates of (CO2 + TBAB), resulting in increased storage capacity compared to TBAB aqueous solution systems.

Summary: Utilizing multi-defective ice to construct porous CO2 hydrate can improve the efficiency of CH4-CO2 hydrate replacement, providing a new method for CH4 recovery and CO2 sequestration. Experimental results showed that the replacement efficiency at 272.15 K was significantly higher than at 268.15 K, confirming the feasibility of the replacement concept.

Summary: The study found that CO2 hydrate first occupies larger pores, leading to poorer pore homogeneity in sandstone. The permeability of samples decreased with hydrate formation and increased with hydrate dissociation, with higher permeability in formation compared to dissociation at the same hydrate saturation.

Summary: The study showed that as the initial pressure increased at constant temperature, the induction time decreased, while the rate of CO2 hydrate formation, apparent rate constant, storage capacity, and water-to-hydrate conversion increased. Similar trends were observed when the initial temperatures were decreased. Lower stirrer speeds resulted in longer induction times and formation rates.
