Scrutinizing proposed extensions to the Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) at low turbulence Reynolds numbers and low Damkohler numbers

Ivar S. Ertesvag

Summary: Recent proposals to modify or extend the Eddy Dissipation Concept were investigated and compared to the standard EDC. Four different variants of the extended EDC were examined, showing locally determined values for two model coefficients. The constraints on the locally determined coefficients were found to be more significant than the formulated dependencies of turbulence Reynolds number and microscale Damkohler number.

Large Eddy Simulation of an Ethanol Spray Flame with Secondary Droplet Breakup

S. Gallot-Lavallee et al.

Summary: This study investigates three configurations of the Delft Spray in Hot-diluted Co-flow (DSHC) using computational methods, employing Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and a transport equation for the joint probability density function (pdf) of the scalars. The simulations provide satisfactory agreement with experimental data and depict velocity fields of the gas and liquid phase accurately.
