Development of a machine learning-based predictor for identifying and discovering antioxidant peptides based on a new strategy

Yong Shen et al.

Summary: A machine learning method was used to construct an antioxidant peptide classification model based on the pseudo-amino acid composition and motifs of peptides. Potential antioxidant peptides such as QCQ were discovered and shown to have strong antioxidant properties. The predictor is an effective tool for discovering peptides with antioxidant function.

Antimicrobial Peptides as Potential Therapeutic Agents: A Review

Shreeja Datta et al.

Summary: The swift growth of pathogens globally has turned into a worldwide health problem, leading to a high demand for novel antibiotics such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). These AMPs offer broad-spectrum activity, rapid pathogen killing, and cell selectivity due to their diverse functional molecules with multifaceted properties. AMPs, derived from animals, plants, and marine sources, show therapeutic potential but are limited by their short plasma half-life. Production of AMPs at reasonable costs can be achieved through biotechnological methods, offering hope for the discovery of efficient and long-lasting antimicrobial drugs once challenges are overcome.

Efficacy of short-synthetic antifungal peptides on pathogenic Aspergillus flavus

S. Manju Devi et al.

Summary: The study examined the inhibitory action of three short synthetic antifungal peptides on pathogenic fungi Aspergillus flavus, showing that these peptides inhibited fungal growth, caused membrane damage, and induced oxidative stress in the fungi. Additionally, the peptides led to decreased fungal biomass and toxin levels.

One- and double-layered furcellaran/carp skin gelatin hydrolysate film system with antioxidant peptide as an innovative packaging for perishable foods products

Joanna Tkaczewska et al.

Summary: The study found that the developed innovative active packaging can effectively slow down lipid oxidation processes, inhibit microbial growth, and extend the shelf life of perishable foods. Experimental results show that single-layer coatings are more efficient, and the application of coatings does not adversely affect the attractiveness parameters of the products.
