A Critical Appraisal of the UK's Regulatory Regime for Combustible Facades

Judith Schulz et al.

Summary: This study critically analyzes the BS 8414 test, the BR 135 criteria, and the government tests on Grenfell Tower-type facades, highlighting the uncertainties and lack of adequate consideration in key aspects such as heat flux, fire load, and ventilation. The findings question the fire safety of building facade systems tested under these standards and call for more stringent measures to ensure the safety of occupants.

A new test method to determine the fire behavior of facades with etic system

Piergiacomo Cancelliere et al.

Summary: The use of combustible materials in building facades for thermal insulation poses fire risks, requiring assessment and evaluation of fire behavior to mitigate potential hazards. The proposed medium-scale test method aims to provide relevant fire hazard quantities for fire risk assessment, allowing for fire performance-based design and enhancing building fire safety.

Evaluating the fire risk associated with cladding panels: An overview of fire incidents, policies, and future perspective in fire standards

Anthony Chun Yin Yuen et al.

Summary: The article reviews the importance of multifunctional building facades in modern buildings and discusses the fire risks associated with the use of combustible aluminum cladding panels in construction. It outlines the development and progress of relevant ACP fire standards in Australia, as well as the discussion on fire spread mechanisms and potential hazards.

FDS simulation of fire spreading on facade heat insulating system

Roman Yakovchuk et al.

Summary: The main purpose of this study was to determine the fire test parameters of the exterior wall construction with facade heat insulation and plaster using FDS simulation, to reproduce real fire test conditions, and to verify the developed model by comparing data with experimental results. Satisfactory error was obtained when measuring temperatures experimentally and through computer simulation. The study involved experimental research on the spread of fire on external walls with facade insulation, as well as computer simulation using gas hydrodynamics methods for full-scale tests, obtaining numerical and graphical indicators characterizing the process of fire occurrence, spread, and development.
