Prognostic and Theranostic Biomarkers in Ovarian Clear Cell Carcinoma

Katharina Wiedemeyer et al.

Summary: This study aimed to test prognostic biomarkers in patients with stage I ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) and to survey the expression of actionable targets in stage II to IV cases. The combination of p53, p16, and IGF2BP3 was proposed as a predictor of prognosis and potential need for adjuvant therapy in stage I OCCC patients.

Refined cut-off for TP53 immunohistochemistry improves prediction of TP53 mutation status in ovarian mucinous tumors: implications for outcome analyses

Summary: The study confirmed the ability of TP53 IHC to predict TP53 mutation status in ovarian mucinous tumors and showed that TP53 mutation is associated with a higher risk of mortality in MBOT patients.

The #Enzian classification: A comprehensive non-invasive and surgical description system for endometriosis

Joerg Keckstein et al.

Summary: Advances in preoperative diagnostics and surgical techniques for endometriosis treatment have led to the need for a comprehensive classification system. Current classifications such as rASRM and Enzian have their limitations, with Enzian being more suitable for deep endometriosis. To address these limitations, a new comprehensive #Enzian classification system has been developed.

Somatic Genomic Events in Endometriosis: Review of the Literature and Approach to Phenotyping

Paul J. Yong et al.

Summary: Research has identified somatic cancer driver mutations in endometriosis, primarily in the glandular epithelium of ectopic lesions. These mutations are also present in eutopic endometrium but at lower frequencies. Further studies are needed to understand the potential clinical phenotype associated with these somatic genomic events.

Coexistence of endometriomas with extraovarian endometriosis and adhesions

Elvin Piriyev et al.

Summary: The study aimed to demonstrate the coexistence of endometriomas with peritoneal and deep infiltrating endometriosis, as well as with adhesions. It was a randomized retrospective study including 1054 patients treated for endometrioma at Academic Hospital Cologne Weyertal from January 2014 to October 2019. The results showed a high prevalence of peritoneal and deep infiltrating endometriosis in patients with endometriomas, with the need for surgical treatment to be cautious due to the potential presence of adhesions and complications.

Peritoneal Fluid from Patients with Ovarian Endometriosis Displays Immunosuppressive Potential and Stimulates Th2 Response

Joanna Olkowska-Truchanowicz et al.

Summary: Peritoneal fluid from patients with endometriosis exhibits immunoregulatory/immunosuppressive activity, affecting T cell generation and cytokine balance. However, peritoneal milieu from non-patients may also have some immunoregulatory/immunosuppressive properties.

Endometriosis: Etiology, pathobiology, and therapeutic prospects

Philippa T. K. Saunders et al.

Summary: Endometriosis is a common condition associated with infertility that causes chronic pain in women. The exact cause and natural history are still uncertain, but hormonal, neurological, and immunological factors are believed to play a role in the development of symptoms. Current interventions have limited efficacy with high rates of symptom recurrence.
