Electronic Medical Record-Based Case Phenotyping for the Charlson Conditions: Scoping Review

Summary: This review provides an overview of the current landscape of EMR-based case phenotyping for the Charlson conditions, with most studies conducted in the United States, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. Algorithms were mainly developed in primary care and inpatient settings, with diabetes, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, and rheumatology having the highest number of developed algorithms. Data-driven and clinical rule-based approaches were identified for algorithm development, reflecting variations in data access across different health systems.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the bacterial causes of external ocular infections and antimicrobial resistance among patients at Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia. The results showed that bacterial external ocular infections are associated with multi-drug resistance and high levels of resistance to penicillin, ampicillin, tetracycline, and piperacillin.
