Synthesis of a novel superabsorbent with slow-release urea fertilizer using modified cellulose as a grafting agent and flexible copolymer

Zahra Mohammadbagheri et al.

Summary: In this study, glucose units in cellulose were oxidized to new units with aldehyde and ene groups, which were used to synthesize an eco-friendly superabsorbent. The created double bonds enhanced the network formation between cellulose and acrylic acid, while also improving the flexibility of cellulose. Results showed that the modified superabsorbent exhibited good water absorption, retention capacity, and slow-release properties, and promoted plant growth.
