Ultrafast and green ionic liquid-mediated controlled cationic polymerization towards amphiphilic diblock copolymers

Devendra Kumar et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated an unprecedented level of control in the IL-mediated ambient temperature controlled cationic polymerization of styrene, yielding well-defined PSt and PSt-b-PIBVE diblock copolymers with acceptable dispersity values. The hydrolysis of PIBVE segments of the PSt-b-PIBVE diblock copolymers leads to the synthesis of amphiphilic polystyrene-b-poly(vinyl alcohol) diblock copolymers, which self-assemble into spherical nanospheres in solution. DFT calculations rationalize the proposed mechanism of this polymerization.

Reversible Deactivation Radical Polymerization: From Polymer Network Synthesis to 3D Printing

Ali Bagheri et al.

Summary: 3D printing technology has revolutionized the fabrication of advanced materials, but the challenge remains in printing polymer materials with post-printing transformability. Traditional radical polymerization used in photopolymerization-based 3D printing offers limited control over chain growth and architecture, unlike the reversible deactivation radical polymerization which allows for network homogeneity tuning and the production of reactivatable species for subsequent processes. RDRP-based networks have advantages over conventionally formed networks in terms of controllability and post-synthetic transformations.

Ultrafast, green and recyclable photoRDRP in an ionic liquid towards multi-stimuli responsive amphiphilic copolymers

Sk Arif Mohammad et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple and cost-effective method for ultrafast and recyclable photo-induced polymerization in ionic liquids, yielding low dispersity polymers and well-defined diblock copolymers. The stimuli response of the copolymers to pH and temperature changes has been evaluated, showing potential applications in precise spatiotemporal control. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations rationalize the underlying mechanism of the polymerization process.
