Novel azide-rich fluorinated energetic polyurethane with excellent mechanical properties by a one-pot facile strategy

Energetic polymeric binders are commonly used in industrial and military fields. By introducing fluorinated components, the mechanical properties of the binders can be improved, while the heat of explosion can also be enhanced.
Energetic polymeric binders are widely used in industrial and military fields. Meanwhile, fluorinated compo-nents in polymeric binders can facilitate the combustion of metallic fuels, energetic polymers are usually preferred for their high energetic content. Therefore, a combination of these two in one polymer binder is ex-pected to be an excellent candidate for high-performance energetic composites. In the current report, a series of energetic and fluorinated polyurethanes (FPUs) based on glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) and fluorinated chain extenders were prepared by a one-pot facile strategy. More significantly, compared with the energetic poly-urethane without fluorine, FPUs not only showed a remarkably improved the mechanical properties, but also, surprisingly, an enhancement in the heat of explosion, despite the low content of fluorine.
