Assessing soil microbial biodiversity as affected by grazing and woody vegetation cover in a temperate savannah

Veronica A. El Mujtar et al.

Summary: This study highlights the impact of grazing management on soil microbial communities, with light availability and shrub cover as key factors influencing biodiversity patterns. Lower grazing intensity, associated with higher vegetation cover, increases bacterial biodiversity while decreasing fungal community structure. Soil bacterial and fungal communities are sensitive indicators to monitor grazing management effects.

Evaluating the combined effect of biochar and PGPR inoculants on the bacterial community in acidic sandy soil

Andras Kari et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of biochar and acid stress-adapted PGPR inoculants to enhance soil fertility and improve maize growth in acidic sandy soil. The results showed that high doses of biochar treatment positively influenced the abundance of PGP bacteria, affecting soil bacterial communities and enhancing maize above-ground biomass. The study suggests that biochar can play a significant role in influencing soil nutrient cycles.
