Risk factors, cardiovascular disease, and mortality in South America: a PURE substudy

Patricio Lopez-Jaramillo et al.

Summary: In a multinational South American cohort, variations in CVD incidence and mortality rates were examined between sub-populations stratified by country, sex, and urban or rural location. The study found that men had higher rates of CVD and death compared to women, and death rates were higher in rural areas. Hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and tobacco use were identified as leading risk factors for both CVD and death.

Hypertension in China: burdens, guidelines and policy responses: a state-of-the-art review

Ruoyu Yin et al.

Summary: The review provides an assessment of the disease burden, management policies, and guidelines for hypertension in China. It found a larger burden of hypertension in men with low awareness, treatment, and control rates in both sexes. Chinese hypertension guidelines offer evidence-based instructions, while policy documents set national goals for hypertension management.

The association of grip strength with cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality in people with hypertension: Findings from the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology China Study

Weida Liu et al.

Summary: This study revealed that among hypertensive patients, low grip strength was associated with the highest risk of major CVD incidence, CVD mortality, and all-cause mortality, while high grip strength appeared to mitigate long-term mortality risk in hypertensive patients.

Educational disparities in ischaemic heart disease among 0.5 million Chinese adults: a cohort study

Lu Chen et al.

Summary: A study based on the China Kadoorie Biobank found that lower educational attainment is associated with an increased risk of incident and fatal cases of ischemic heart disease in the Chinese population. Lifestyle factors such as smoking and dietary habits were identified as major mediators in this association.

Age-specific modifiable risk factor profiles for cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality: a nationwide, population-based, prospective cohort study

Tiange Wang et al.

Summary: The nationwide study in China identified age-specific modifiable risk factors for CVD and all-cause mortality, showing significant differences between adults aged >= 75 years and their younger counterparts. As age increases, lifestyle factors play a larger role in both CVD and all-cause mortality.

Trends in hypertension prevalence, awareness, treatment and control rates among Chinese adults, 1991-2015

Shujing Ma et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the trends in the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension among Chinese adults from 1991 to 2015 based on the 2018 Chinese Guideline. The results showed a significant increase in hypertension prevalence over the two decades, with slight to moderate improvements in awareness, treatment, and control rates which remained very low. These findings highlight the importance of effective measures to prevent and control hypertension among Chinese adults.
