Effects of magnetically treated Sedum alfredii seeds on the dissolved organic matter characteristics of Cd-contaminated soil during phytoextraction

Youjun Tang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the concentration and fractionations of DOM in the rhizosphere of magnetically treated Sedum alfredii have changed, leading to an increased ability to uptake Cd and enhancing the phytoremediation effect of the species.

Characterization of colored dissolved organic matter in the northeastern South China Sea using EEMs-PARAFAC and absorption spectroscopy

Yazhuo Li et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional fluorescence excitation-emission matrix spectroscopy and absorption spectroscopy were used to characterize colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the northeastern South China Sea. The fluorescence components were identified as humiclike, tryptophan-like, and tyrosine-like substances. CDOM distribution was influenced by phytoplankton, bacteria, as well as endogenous and exogenous sources.

Multi-spectroscopic investigation of the molecular weight distribution and copper binding ability of dissolved organic matter in Dongping Lake, China

Tuantuan Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the spatial differences in compositions, molecular weight structures, and binding mechanisms between dissolved organic matter (DOM) and copper (Cu2+) in Dongping Lake. The results showed that the DOM in the lake exhibited specific differences in space, components, and molecular weights, which have significant implications for understanding the behavior and bioavailability of heavy metals in lakes.

Spectroscopic characterization of dissolved organic matter from macroalgae Ulva pertusa decomposition and its binding behaviors with Cu (II)

Xiaotian Zhou et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from macroalgae changed during the 27-day decomposition period, with increased hydrophobicity, aromaticity, and molecular weight. The relative abundance of protein-like components decreased while humic-like components increased. The Cu(II) binding properties of the DOM were time-dependent, with different complexation capacities at specific times and microbial degradation accelerating the binding to certain components.

Assessing the priming effect of dissolved organic matter from typical sources using fluorescence EEMs-PARAFAC

Wan-E Zhuang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the priming effect of adding DOM from different natural and anthropogenic sources to pre-aged river DOM. Results showed that DOM from different sources had varying composition and bioavailability, resulting in different impacts on bulk DOC and various DOM components in aquatic environments.

EEM-PARAFAC characterization of dissolved organic matter and its relationship with disinfection by-products formation potential in drinking water sources of northeastern China

Xiaotong Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the variations in Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the water of M reservoir over a year using fluorescence excitation-emission matrix parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC) to evaluate the formation potentials of disinfection by-products (DBPs). Different components of DOM were identified in the reservoir water, with seasonal differences observed in DOM content. The study highlighted the impact of DOM source, types, and humification degree on the formation of DBPs, with specific correlations observed between certain DOM components and different DBPs.
