Efficient degradation of tetracycline by singlet oxygen-dominated peroxymonosulfate activation with magnetic nitrogen-doped porous carbon

Shaohua Wu et al.

Summary: The study thoroughly examined the degradation of tetracycline (TC) in the constructed Co-N/C-PMS system, finding that the removal rate of TC reached 85.4% when Co-N/C and PMS were added simultaneously, with a higher degradation rate compared to using Co-N/C or PMS alone. The system was identified as a singlet oxygen-dominated nonradical reaction, providing a promising approach for eliminating TC in water treatment.

Heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate for bisphenol A degradation using CoFe2O4 derived by hybrid cobalt-ion hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles

Xinxin Long et al.

Summary: In this research, spinel cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were prepared using hybrid cobalt-ion hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles as a template, exhibiting a well-defined mesoporous dominated structure and excellent catalytic performance. The catalyst could be regenerated for repeated use through a simple process, making it a promising candidate for contaminant degradation applications in the environment.

Direct oxidation of antibiotic trimethoprim by unactivated peroxymonosulfate via a nonradical transformation mechanism

Xuerui Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that unactivated PMS can directly oxidize TMP through a non-radical process, promoting PMS decay, with alkaline conditions favoring TMP degradation. The two amine groups on the pyrimidine ring were identified as reactive sites, and the oxidation products were stable.

Mechanism of unactivated peroxymonosulfate-induced degradation of methyl parathion: Kinetics and transformation pathway

Xiaoping Liao et al.

Summary: Unactivated PMS can rapidly degrade methyl parathion through direct reaction rather than electrophile radical-based oxidation, with the contribution of produced singlet oxygen being negligible. The degradation rate constant is strongly dependent on PMS loading and solution pH.

Effect of borate buffer on organics degradation with unactivated peroxymonosulfate: Influencing factors and mechanisms

Zhuhao Chen et al.

Summary: This study systematically reported the efficient degradation of organic pollutants through a PMS/borate system. Borate significantly enhanced the degradation of acid orange 7 (AO7) by PMS, and the variation of degradation efficiency at different borate concentrations was investigated.

Transformation of acetaminophen in solution containing both peroxymonosulfate and chlorine: Performance, mechanism, and disinfection by-product formation

Jiaqi Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synergistic effect of PMS and chlorine on the degradation of micro-organic pollutants, finding that efficient ACT removal is achieved through direct catalytic chlorination by PMS at neutral conditions. The kinetic study demonstrates that ACT oxidation by PMS/chlorine follows a second order reaction, with peak rate constants at alkaline conditions. The presence of chloride enhances ACT removal, while ammonium and humic acid significantly retard ACT degradation.

Accelerated oxidation of the emerging brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol S by unactivated peroxymonosulfate: The role of bromine catalysis and formation of disinfection byproducts

Haiyan Xu et al.

Summary: The study showed that unactivated peroxymonosulfate effectively oxidized Tetrabromobisphenol S (TBBPS) in aqueous solution and exhibited autocatalytic behavior. The oxidation process likely began through a single electron transfer mechanism, leading to accelerated reactions catalyzed by bromine, and ultimately resulting in the formation of brominated intermediate products.

Selective oxidation and direct decolorization of cationic dyes by persulfate without activation

Bing Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of PDS without activation for selective oxidation and direct decolorization of cationic dyes, showing promising bleaching capability especially for Methylene Blue. The results suggest that direct electron transfer from dyes to PDS may occur, leading to the bleaching of dyes, and pH conditions play a significant role in the decolorization process.

Sulfite-based advanced oxidation and reduction processes for water treatment

Shaohua Wu et al.

Summary: This critical review provides an overview of sulfite-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and advanced reduction processes (ARPs) in water purification, discussing the mechanisms of reactive species generation, factors influencing removal performance, and roles in pollutant destruction. The review aims to advance understanding and applications of sulfite-based AOPs/ARPs in water treatment by identifying key knowledge gaps and proposing future research directions.
