A structured review evaluating content validity of the Asthma Control Test, and its consistency with US guidelines and patient expectations for asthma control

Linda M. Nelsen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the content validity of the Asthma Control Test (ACT) by comparing ACT items to the NHLBI guideline asthma control definitions and the language used by patients. The results showed that the content of ACT items aligned with the NHLBI guideline definitions and the language used by patients when discussing asthma symptoms and impact. This provides further evidence to support the content validity of the ACT as a measure of asthma control.

Indoor PM2.5, VOCs and asthma outcomes: A systematic review in adults and their home environments

C. A. Paterson et al.

Summary: This study found insufficient evidence to determine the effect of indoor PM2.5 on adult asthma in higher-income countries, but strong evidence to suggest that volatile organic compounds, especially aromatic compounds and aliphatic compounds, are associated with increased asthma symptoms. Therefore, the importance of appropriate use and storage of chemicals in the home environment needs to be better promoted to prevent poor health outcomes.

Wildfire smoke impacts respiratory health more than fine particles from other sources: observational evidence from Southern California

Rosana Aguilera et al.

Summary: Wildfires are becoming more frequent and destructive due to climate change, with PM2.5 in wildfire smoke adversely impacting human health. Recent studies suggest wildfire PM2.5 may be more toxic than other sources of PM2.5. Adjusting air quality policies to consider the variability in PM2.5 impacts from different emission sources is essential.
