Vacancy-rich structure inducing efficient persulfate activation for tetracycline degradation over Ni-Fe layered double hydroxide nanosheets

Rongyao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, NiFe-LDH catalysts with cation vacancies were fabricated via defect engineering to enhance the activation of persulfate (PS) and the degradation of tetracycline (TC). Experimental and theoretical results showed that cation vacancies improved the catalytic performance by facilitating electron transfer and generating more reactive oxygen species. The study provides a guideline for the design of high-activity catalysts based on defect engineering.

Peroxydisulfate Activation and Singlet Oxygen Generation by Oxygen Vacancy for Degradation of Contaminants

Yongguang Bu et al.

Summary: This study presents a mechanism of PDS activation over OV-rich BiOBr samples, where a nonradical mechanism mediated by O-1(2) is utilized for BPA degradation. The surface OVs of BiOBr provide ideal sites for the inclusion of hydroxyl ions, leading to the formation of Bi-III-OH species that act as active sites for PDS activation. This work offers a novel perspective for the activation of peroxides by defective materials without additional energy supply or aqueous transition metal ions.

Active facet determination of layered double hydroxide for oxygen evolution reaction

Yunqi Zhang et al.

Summary: LDHs have been identified as promising electrocatalysts for OER due to their high intrinsic activity, excellent stability, and low cost. The active edge facet of LDHs plays a crucial role in improving OER activity, with higher edge facet area ratio showing superior performance. Density functional theory calculation indicates that the edge facet exhibits higher OER activity compared to the basal plane facet.

Morphology controlled synthesis of α-Fe2O3-x with benzimidazole-modified Fe-MOFs for enhanced photo-Fenton-like catalysis

Wenkai Xu et al.

Summary: Surface structure engineering plays a crucial role in enhancing the photo-Fenton-like catalytic performance of alpha-Fe2O3-based photocatalysts. The rod-like alpha-Fe2O3-x material exhibited the highest activity for methylene blue degradation, attributed to its large surface area, high Fe2+ and oxygen vacancies concentrations. Density functional theory calculations confirmed that both Fe2+ ions and oxygen vacancies facilitate the dissociation of H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals for the degradation of organic dyes.
