A comparative study of the dichloromethane catalytic combustion over ruthenium-based catalysts: Unveiling the roles of acid types in dissociative adsorption and by-products formation

Qingji Ying et al.

Summary: A comparative investigation of Ru-based catalysts on different supports for catalytic combustion of dichloromethane was conducted, revealing that Lewis acid sites were more active than Brønsted acid sites. The presence of Cl species on TiO2 and Al2O3 supports interacted strongly with Lewis acid sites, leading to the formation of more polychlorinated toxic by-products. The study provides valuable insights into the development of catalytic combustion catalysts for chlorinated volatile organic compounds.

An isotopic strategy to investigate the role of water vapor in the oxidation of 1,2-dichloroethane over the Ru/WO3 or Ru/TiO2 catalyst

Xiaohui Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, electron paramagnetic resonance, in situ diffuse reflection infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed techniques were used to investigate the effects of water vapor on oxygen species and reaction pathways during the oxidation of 1,2-dichloroethane over Ru/WO3 or Ru/TiO2 catalyst. The results showed that the introduction of water vapor increased the formation of active oxygen species and promoted the conversion of vinyl chloride to acetic acid. Additionally, water acted as a adsorption site and facilitated the catalytic reaction.

Ru0.05Ce0.95O2 Solid Solution Derived Ru Catalyst Enables Selective Hydrodeoxygenation of m-Cresol to Toluene

Desen Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, a solid solution Ru0.05Ce0.95O2 catalyst was used for the selective hydrodeoxygenation of m-cresol, demonstrating high oxygen vacancy concentration and the ability to catalyze toluene production with significant inhibition of competing hydrogenolysis and hydrogenation reactions. The active sites for deoxygenation were proposed to be Ru-O-V-Ce sites, and the inhibition of C-C hydrogenolysis and phenyl hydrogenation was attributed to the reduced size of the Ru ensembles due to strong interaction in the solid solution.
