Chlorine disinfection facilitates natural transformation through ROS-mediated oxidative stress

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study shows that chloramine and free chlorine can significantly increase the transformation rate of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) through a series of cell responses, including increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), bacterial membrane and DNA damage, ultimately enhancing the transformation of ARGs. Disinfectant exposure induces a stress response in cells, leading to the promotion of ARGs transformation, which could play a crucial role in managing antibiotic resistance in water systems.

Pre-oxidation enhanced cyanobacteria removal in drinking water treatment: A review

Jing Qi et al.

Summary: Cyanobacterial bloom has negative impacts on source water quality and drinking water production, while pre-oxidation can improve the removal of cyanobacteria in solid-liquid separation processes. Moderate pre-oxidation may enhance the efficiency of cyanobacteria removal.

Accelerated catalytic oxidation of dissolved manganese(II) by chlorine in the presence of in situ-growing 3D manganese(III)/(IV) oxide nanosheet assembly in zeolite filter

Panpan Wang et al.

Summary: The study presents a method for accelerated catalytic oxidation process through porous zeolite filter to remove excess manganese from water. By dynamically coating manganese oxide nanocatalysts, dissolved manganese(II) can efficiently be removed from contaminated tap water, ground water, and river water.

Deprotonation and aggregation of Al-13 under alkaline titration: A simulating study related to coagulation process

Guangyu An et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the deprotonation and aggregation processes of Al-13 in polyaluminum chloride, revealing that the aggregation process can stabilize the polycations and particles can promote the aggregation of Al-13. The findings suggest that strong and compact flocs can be generated through in situ aggregation of Al-13, providing insight for the development of new efficient coagulants for various water qualities.
