Identification of decadal trends and associated causes for organic and elemental carbon in PM2.5 at Canadian urban sites

Huanbo Wang et al.

Summary: Chemical data on PM2.5 in Canada since 2003 showed a decreasing trend in OC and EC at urban sites, with EC decreasing faster than OC and resulting in an increase in the OC/EC ratio. Source attributions using a macro-tracer method indicated that the significant decrease in EC was mainly due to reduced on-road emissions.

Quantifying the relative importance of major tracers for fine particles released from biofuel combustion in households in the rural North China Plain

Jun Tao et al.

Summary: The study found that organic carbon and elemental carbon are the major chemical components of PM2.5 released from the combustion of all tested biofuels, with varying mass fractions under different combustion conditions. Additionally, water-soluble inorganic ions showed higher mass fractions under flaming combustion compared to smoldering combustion, while anhydrosugars presented in an opposite pattern.

Temporal variations and spatial distributions of gaseous and particulate air pollutants and their health risks during 2015-2019 in China

Wei Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that with the improvement of air quality in China, the concentrations of air pollutants in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta regions have decreased, resulting in a corresponding reduction in mortality risk. PM2.5 accounted for the largest proportion in ERtotal. The impact of air pollutants on health risks varied by season and region.

Long-term observations of oxygenated volatile organic compounds (OVOCs) in an urban atmosphere in southern China, 2014-2019

Shi-Yong Xia et al.

Summary: This study investigated the sources and temporal variation of OVOCs in an urban atmosphere in China from 2014 to 2019. The results showed that primary anthropogenic sources contributed the most to certain OVOCs, with concentrations decreasing significantly due to pollution control measures. Secondary OVOCs were not impacted by the measures, indicating their formation was not limited by availability of primary VOC precursors.

Spatiotemporal trends of PM2.5 and its major chemical components at urban sites in Canada

Huanbo Wang et al.

Summary: Chemically resolved PM2.5 data collected across various locations in Canada over the past decade were analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of emission control regulations for reducing air pollution. The results showed significant geographical and seasonal variations in PM2.5 concentrations and its chemical components, with higher levels observed in southeastern Canada compared to Atlantic Canada. Urban sites generally exhibited higher concentrations of NO3-, OC, and EC compared to rural sites, indicating the influence of local sources on these components.

An updated model-ready emission inventory for Guangdong Province by incorporating big data and mapping onto multiple chemical mechanisms

Zhijiong Huang et al.

Summary: Developed a high-resolution (3 km x 3 km) model-ready emission inventory for Guangdong Province based on 2017 data, with a focus on reactive VOC emissions and dynamic approach for ship and OFBB emissions. Revealed increased contribution of OVOC to total OFP and formaldehyde becoming the largest OFP species in GD. Improved spatial-temporal variability capture for ship and OFBB emissions, with significant reduction during typhoon days and holidays. Highlighted rapid changes in GD emissions due to control measures and the need for regular updates to reduce emission uncertainties.

Impact of deliquescence of aerosol on mass absorption efficiency of elemental carbon in fine particles in urban Guangzhou in south China

Jun Tao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the factors affecting the mass absorption efficiency (MAE) of elemental carbon (EC) in fine particles (PM2.5) in an urban environment in Guangzhou, China. It found that high EC MAE was related to elevated nitrate mass concentration and positive Delta RH, while no significant correlations were observed with EC mass distribution or chemical composition ratios.

Source apportionment of fine organic carbon at an urban site of Beijing using a chemical mass balance model

Jingsha Xu et al.

Summary: Fine particles were sampled in urban Beijing as part of field campaigns. Different components such as carbonaceous, inorganic ions, and organic compounds were determined for source apportionment. Results showed varying contributions of different components to PM2.5 in winter and summer, with carbonaceous components and secondary inorganic ions being significant sources.

Summary: The study focuses on investigating the frictional wear behavior of grade 5 titanium alloy and its performance improvement after coating with titanium aluminum nitride. The coated Ti alloy shows enhanced wear resistance compared to the uncoated alloy, attributed to improved surface properties and better resistance to micro thermal effects.
