Vertically grown CeO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles over the MIL53Fe MOF as proper band alignments for efficient H-2 generation and 2,4-DCP degradation

Muhammad Humayun et al.

Summary: TiO2@MIL53Fe and CeO2@MIL53Fe composite photocatalysts were successfully synthesized via solvothermal technique. These photocatalysts exhibited remarkably improved photoactivities for H-2 production and 2,4-DCP degradation, attributed to significantly promoted charge separation.

Degradation mechanism of tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) as an emerging contaminant in advanced oxidation processes: A DFT modelling approach

Hui Xia et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanistic details of TCEP degradation promoted by (OH)-O· using density functional theory (DFT) method. The results showed that in the initial step, energy barriers of the hydrogen abstraction pathways were no more than 7 kcal/mol.

Kinetics and reaction pathways for the transformation of 4-tert-butylphenol by ferrate(VI)

Qing Zheng et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the transformation of 4-tert-butylphenol in ferrate (VI) oxidation process, finding that the reaction rate constant of Fe(VI) with 4-tBP decreases with solution pH and the removal efficiency was slightly affected by certain ions. Product analysis showed that 4-tBP mainly transformed into hydroxylation products, benzene-ring cleavage products, dimers, and higher polymerization products. The feasibility of this Fe(VI) oxidation method in treating phenols-contaminated waters was demonstrated by achieving nearly complete removal of 4-tBP in both ultrapure water and natural waters after 5 minutes of reaction.

Mechanistic insight into the degradation of ibuprofen in UV/H2O2 process via a combined experimental and DFT study

Pin Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the degradation kinetics and transformation mechanism of ibuprofen (IBP) in the UV/H2O2 process, evaluating the impacts of various factors on the degradation process. The (OH)-O· and (NO2)-N· were found to play important roles in the degradation of IBP, with their rate constants calculated based on transition state theory. The detailed degradation pathways for IBP, including hydroxylated and keto-based products, were clarified through ultra-high-resolution mass and density functional theory calculations.

Efficient photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline under visible light by Z-scheme Ag3PO4/mixed-valence MIL-88A(Fe) heterojunctions: Mechanism insight, degradation pathways and DFT calculation

Zhenfei Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, Ag3PO4/mixed-valence MIL-88A(Fe) [AMM] Z-scheme heterojunctions with an in-situ-generated photo-Fenton process were successfully constructed, showing improved photocatalytic activity. The Z-scheme transfer pathway accelerated charge carrier transport and inhibited photocorrosion, leading to enhanced photocatalytic performance. The FeII/FeIII ratio adjustment of mixed-valence MIL-88A(Fe) further increased the photocatalytic activity, benefiting from the efficiency of the in-situ-generated photo-Fenton process.

Degradation of triclosan by anodic oxidation/in-situ peroxone process: Kinetics, pathway and reaction mechanism

Chao Qu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the abatement of Triclosan (TCS) using a novel electro-oxidation (EO) process, showing that the process effectively degrades TCS with less harmful residues. Liquid chromatography combined mass (LC-MS) was used to identify the main intermediates of TCS during the process.
