Discovering pesticides and their TPs in Luxembourg waters using open cheminformatics approaches

Jessy Krier et al.

Summary: The study utilized high-resolution liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to screen for potential pesticides and their transformation products in Luxembourg river samples. A computational workflow was established for data analysis and verification, revealing the highest number of potential detections in July, with the rivers Alzette and Mess having the highest detections and the Sure and Eisch rivers having the lowest.

New insights on the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on children

Barbara Predieri et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the recent epidemiological findings on the impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on children's endocrine system health. The research highlights the potential adverse effects of EDCs on growth, metabolism, sexual development, and reproduction in children. Due to the complexity of exposure to multiple EDCs, assessing the public health effects is challenging, and legislation to ban EDCs and protect vulnerable populations is necessary.

Biomonitoring of fast-elimination endocrine disruptors-Results from a 6-month follow up on human volunteers with repeated urine and hair collection

Francois Fays et al.

Summary: This study compared the variability of biomarkers in hair and urine samples collected from 16 volunteers over a 6-month follow-up. The results show that only one compound had significantly correlated concentrations of biomarkers in both hair and urine. The study highlights the complexity of assessing exposure to fast-elimination endocrine disruptors and suggests caution in interpreting data based on the specificity of the matrix.

Population-based biomonitoring of exposure to persistent and non-persistent organic pollutants in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: Results from hair analysis

Feng-Jiao Peng et al.

Summary: This study using hair analysis found that the general adult population in Luxembourg is commonly exposed to a variety of organic pollutants, with more than 50% of the detected pollutants being found in over 50% of the hair samples analyzed.

Hair versus urine for the biomonitoring of pesticide exposure: Results from a pilot cohort study on pregnant women

Emilie M. Hardy et al.

Summary: The study compared urine and hair samples from pregnant women to assess pesticide exposure. Results showed that hair analysis provided more comprehensive information than urine analysis, with a higher number and frequency of compounds detected in hair samples. The study supports the relevance of using hair analysis in future epidemiological studies on pesticide exposure and health effects.
