Three-state majority-vote model on small-world networks

Bernardo J. Zubillaga et al.

Summary: In this study, we explore the opinion dynamics of the three-state majority-vote model on small-world networks. We find that rewiring the connections in the network enhances social order and leads to different universality classes compared to the model on two-dimensional square lattices.

Polarization and tipping points

Michael W. Macy et al.

Summary: Research has shown increasing partisan division and extremist positions are more pronounced among political elites than voters, and attention is now turning towards ways to attenuate this polarization. A general model of opinion change was used to study how self-reinforcing dynamics may lead to irreversible political polarization due to tipping points. Computational experiments manipulating agents' tolerance for disagreement and strength of party identification revealed difficult-to-predict transitions, emphasizing the importance of identifying tipping points and the effectiveness of countermeasures in future empirical research.

Discontinuous phase transitions in the multi-state noisy q-voter model: quenched vs. annealed disorder

Bartlomiej Nowak et al.

Summary: This study introduces a generalized version of the noisy q-voter model, where voters can be in different states and two types of disorder (annealed and quenched) are considered. The model displays discontinuous phase transitions for any q>1 when the number of states is greater than 2.

Integrating social and cognitive aspects of belief dynamics: towards a unifying framework

Mirta Galesic et al.

Summary: The complexity of belief change and spread in the social-cognitive system has been explored in this study through a review of insights from different disciplines. A unified quantitative framework is proposed for theoretical and empirical comparisons of belief dynamic models, utilizing statistical physics formalism grounded in cognitive and social theory. This framework aims to integrate existing knowledge and develop a more comprehensive understanding of belief dynamics.

Zealots in multistate noisy voter models

Nagi Khalil et al.

Summary: The study examines the effects of zealots in noisy voter models with M > 2 opinion states on complete interaction graphs. It finds that the phase behavior diversifies, with up to six possible qualitatively different types of stationary states, and the presence of zealots removes some of these phases.

External fields, independence, and disorder in q-voter models

Jamil Civitarese

Summary: Independent agents in q-voter models cause disordered behavior, with small parameter perturbations leading to significant outcome variations. The paper suggests that an external field may explain less unstable outcomes in the model, similar to mass media, which can lead to quicker convergence to a fairly ordered state or higher disorder depending on the perceived reliability of the external field.
