Multiple internal resonances in nonlinear vibrations of rotating thin-walled cylindrical shells

Shupeng Sun et al.

Summary: The paper investigates multiple internal resonances in the nonlinear vibrations of rotating thin-walled cylindrical shells, considering Coriolis forces and initial hoop tension. A dynamic model is derived using Lagrange equations, and linear vibration characteristics are given. Two types of multiple internal resonances are proposed, one caused by opportune geometric parameters and the other by rotation of the shells. Numerical investigations using harmonic balance method and direct integral approach show detailed nonlinear vibration characteristics with 1:1:1:1 internal resonances.

Reduced order models for geometrically nonlinear structures: Assessment of implicit condensation in comparison with invariant manifold approach

Yichang Shen et al.

Summary: This study compares two methods for deriving reduced-order models for geometrically nonlinear structures: the ICE method and nonlinear normal modes. The ICE method relies on static loadings to construct a stress manifold, while nonlinear normal modes depend on invariant manifold theory to maintain invariance. In the finite element framework, obtaining all model coefficients for the ICE method is often computationally expensive, and the stress manifold tends to the invariant manifold in specific conditions.

Nonlinear vibrations of fiber-reinforced composite cylindrical shells with bolt loosening boundary conditions

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear vibrations of fiber-reinforced composite cylindrical shells with bolted joint boundary conditions, considering the nonlinear amplitude-dependent material property of FRCs and partial bolt loosening conditions. The study uses theoretical modeling and experimental validation to analyze the effects of bolt loosening degree and number on natural frequencies, damping ratios, and resonant response amplitudes of FRCCS structures. The results show that increased bolt loosening leads to decreased natural frequencies, increased damping ratios, and resonant response amplitudes due to the coupling effect of decreased boundary stiffness and increased boundary damping.

Chao Ye et al.

Summary: The study focused on analyzing the nonlinear forced vibration of thin-walled metal foam cylindrical shells reinforced with functionally graded graphene platelets, particularly examining the 1:1:1:2 internal resonances. Different porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution significantly influenced the nonlinear behavior of the shells, with the inclusion of graphene platelets weakening the nonlinear coupling effect. The effects of porosity coefficient and GPL weight fraction on the nonlinear dynamical response were found to be strongly related to porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution.
