Mixed-mode tensile/shear fracture of the additively manufactured components under dynamic and static loads

B. Ameri et al.

Summary: This study investigates the cracking behavior of ABS parts manufactured through FDM. Semi-Circular Bending fracture samples are used for inspection. The results show that the fracture behavior of ABS samples is brittle, similar to homogenous materials. The crack paths under dynamic and static loading conditions are nearly identical.

U-notch fracture in additively manufactured ABS specimens under symmetric three-point bending

Sahel Shahbaz et al.

Summary: This study investigates the fracture behavior of ABS material U-notched semi-circular bend specimens under opening-mode loading using various notch tip radii and unidirectional layup configurations. Experimental results show that the VIMC-MS criterion is the best model for estimating fracture loads, and the type of failure for the samples is evaluated.

Essential work of fracture assessment of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) processed via fused filament fabrication additive manufacturing

Pawan Verma et al.

Summary: Experiments and FE calculations were conducted to study the raster angle-dependent fracture behavior of ABS thermoplastic processed via FFF additive manufacturing. The findings suggest that the fracture resistance of 3D-printed ABS depends on the raster angle, with higher values observed for specimens with perpendicular printing direction to the crack plane.

Mechanical properties of fused filament fabricated PEEK for biomedical applications depending on additive manufacturing parameters

Yiqiao Wang et al.

Summary: Design of experiments was used to study the impact of 3D printing parameters on the quality of PEEK parts, with bending and compression tests conducted for quantitative evaluation. Nozzle diameter, nozzle temperature, and printing speed were found to be crucial factors affecting the performance of the printed PEEK samples. Optimal mechanical properties and dimension accuracy were achieved by optimizing the parameter combinations.

Interlayer bonding strength of 3D printed PEEK specimens

Chya-Yan Liaw et al.

Summary: Recent advances in extrusion-based 3D printing have made processing high-performance polymers like PEEK possible. This study investigated the interlayer bonding strength of 3D-printed PEEK, finding that printing parameters such as nozzle temperature, layer height, and wait-time significantly influence bonding strength. While thermal annealing post-printing can improve certain properties, interlayer bonding strength is primarily determined during the printing process.
