Criteria and design guidance for lithium-ion battery safety from a material perspective

Summary: With the rapid development of electric vehicles and electronic devices, the safety issues of lithium-ion batteries have been attracting global attention. By leveraging numerical simulation and stacking tests, the study proposes criteria for the mechanical behaviors of battery component materials to mitigate and postpone internal short circuit. These results provide critical insights into the fundamental mechanistic behaviors during internal short circuits and offer design guidance for the next generation of safe batteries.
