Mono-alkyl esters (biodiesel) production from wastewater sludge by esterification

Yousuf Jamal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the extraction and esterification of lipids from wastewater sludge using a mixture of polar and non-polar solvents and acidic catalyst. The results show that the solvent extraction time, catalyst concentration, and esterification reaction time have significant effects on the ester yield.

Evaluation and kinetic study of alkaline ionic liquid for biodiesel production through transesterification of sunflower oil

Ana Carolina Lima et al.

Summary: Ionic liquid choline hydroxide (ChOH) was successfully applied as a catalyst for the transesterification reaction of triacylglycerols present in sunflower oil with methanol. The experimental results showed that a high ester yield can be achieved in a short reaction time under specific conditions. Kinetic modeling study indicated that a first-order model is the best fit for the reaction.

Hydroprocessing of palm oil using Rh/HZSM-5 for the production of biojet fuel in a fixed bed reactor

Thapanee Bangjang et al.

Summary: In this study, the hydroprocessing of palm oil using Rh/HZSM-5 catalyst in a continuous fixed bed reactor was investigated, with a focus on the impact of operating parameters on biojet fuel and biodiesel yields. The addition of 30% heptane maintained high conversion rates for palm oil, while a H-2-to-oil molar ratio of 316 ensured system stability and high biojet fuel yield.

A comprehensive review of biodiesel production from waste cooking oil and its use as fuel in compression ignition engines: 3rd generation cleaner feedstock

Digambar Singh et al.

Summary: The latest research on fuels has focused on exploring better alternatives for compression ignition engines, with biodiesel from waste cooking oil being identified as a viable source. The two-step transesterification method is preferred for commercial-scale biodiesel production due to the high free fatty acids and water content in waste cooking oil. Factors such as catalyst concentration, alcohol to oil molar ratio, reaction temperature, and time of reaction all affect the yield of biodiesel.
