A facile dual-functional hydrothermal-assisted synthesis strategy of hierarchical porous carbon for enhanced supercapacitor performance

Chengshuai Chang et al.

Summary: A facile and effective activation strategy combining hydrothermal pre-treatment using acid/hydrogen peroxide as dual-functional modifier and KOH activation was proposed to prepare interconnected macroporous carbon framework from Typha grass fluff. The as-prepared sample showed high capacitance value, long cycling life, and high energy density, indicating its potential for energy storage applications. This work provides new insights into pore structure engineering of biomass-derived carbon and an effective approach for improving their energy conversion/storage performances.

Mesoporous Carbon from Optimized Date Stone Hydrochar by Catalytic Hydrothermal Carbonization Using Response Surface Methodology: Application to Dyes Adsorption

Faical El Ouadrhiri et al.

Summary: Efficient and environmental friendly conversion of date seed into adsorbent material was achieved by coupling citric acid-catalyzed hydrothermal carbonization with pyrolysis. The optimized hydrochar exhibited high mass yield and carbon retention rate, while the chemically activated carbon material showed a high specific surface area and excellent adsorption capacity for dyes. The combination of CHTC and KOH activation followed by pyrolysis proves to be a promising method for preparing efficient and cost-effective adsorbents for wastewater treatment.
