Urban spatial structure and total-factor energy efficiency in Chinese provinces

Binbin Yu

Summary: International experience shows that urbanization rates between 30% and 70% signify rapid urban development, with China facing a choice between a mono-centric or poly-centric urban structure for optimal economic efficiency. The distribution of urban systems plays a crucial role in spatial resource allocation and overall energy efficiency. Regional disparities, development stages, and city sizes all impact the effects of urban spatial structure on total-factor energy efficiency, with Eastern provinces benefiting more from a mono-centric structure while overall urbanization and city scale improvements can counteract the negative impacts.

Energy efficiency evaluation of oil producing economies in Africa: DEA, malmquist and multiple regression approaches

Mark Awe Tachega et al.

Summary: The study evaluates energy efficiency, productivity improvement, and determinants in 14 oil-producing countries in Africa, finding that on average the sampled countries have 98% energy efficiency and some improved energy productivity. Factors such as trade liberalization and population growth positively influence energy efficiency, while there is no U-shaped relationship between energy efficiency and GDP.
