A multiphase sodium vanadium phosphate cathode material for high-rate sodium-ion batteries

Chuan Wang et al.

Summary: A Na3V2(PO4)(3)/Na3V3(PO4)(4) multiphase cathode material was successfully synthesized for high-rate and long cycling SIBs by regulating the stoichiometric ratio of raw materials. The multiphase materials showed superior electrochemical performance with high reversible capacity and cycling stability, indicating the potential of introducing second phases for the development of novel cathode materials for SIBs.

Chromium doping into NASICON-structured Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode for high-power Na-ion batteries

Jun Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a Na3V1.6Cr0.4(PO4)(3)/C (NVCrP@C) cathode was designed for high power density sodium-ion batteries by implanting Cr into the crystal structure of NVP and coating it with carbon. The substitution of Cr in the structure significantly enhanced the electrode's structural stability, while the thin carbon layer improved electrical conductivity, leading to excellent cycling stability and power capability of the NVCrP@C cathode.

Gustautas Snarskis et al.

Summary: In this study, a bifunctional Na-ion battery electrode system based on NASICON-structured Na1+2xMnxTi2-x(PO4)(3) was investigated to analyze its thermodynamic and phase formation properties. The results indicate finite thermodynamic limits of possible Mn concentrations in the system, primarily determined by phase separation into stable sodium ordered phases. The system does not exhibit solid solution behavior, instead phase-separating into sodium ordered monoclinic phases.

Synthetic accessibility and stability rules of NASICONs

Bin Ouyang et al.

Summary: This paper presents stability rules for NASICON-structured materials, developed through high-throughput computations and validated through synthesis. A machine-learned tolerance factor based on specific descriptors offers reasonable accuracy in predicting the stability of NASICON phases. This work not only provides tools for understanding the synthetic accessibility of NASICON-type materials, but also demonstrates an efficient paradigm for discovering new materials with complicated composition and atomic structure.

A Trifluoroacetate-based Concentrated Electrolyte for Symmetrical Aqueous Sodium-ion Battery with NASICON-type Na2VTi(PO4)3 Electrodes

Kosuke Nakamoto et al.

Summary: A safe and low-cost aqueous electrolyte with high ionic conductivity and wide electrochemical stability window, possibly due to the "water-in-salt" effect and formation of a robust fluoride layer on the anode, was discovered in this study. This novel electrolyte enabled reversible operation of the NASICON-type Na2VTi(PO4)(3) based on V3+/4+ at the cathode and Ti3+/4+ and V2+/3+ at the anode.

Understanding and mitigation of NaTi2(PO4)3 degradation in aqueous Na-ion batteries

Gintare Pleckaityte et al.

Summary: Aqueous Na-ion batteries are considered promising for large-scale energy storage, but issues like electrolyte/electrode interface instability need to be addressed to fully utilize their potential. Research shows that irreversible capacity fade in NASICON-structured NaTi2(PO4)(3) electrodes is due to electrochemically induced chemical dissolution, with oxygen reduction self-discharge leading to material degradation. Applying artificial protective layers, such as Al2O3 through atomic layer deposition, can significantly stabilize electrodes and prevent negative electrode degradation.
