Superior corrosion protection and adhesion strength of epoxy coating applied on AZ31 magnesium alloy pre-treated by PEO/Silane with inorganic and organic corrosion inhibitors

M. Toorani et al.

Summary: The study found that adding 8-Hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) organic inhibitor to the PEO/Silane/Epoxy coating system provides optimal corrosion protection properties. The formation of Ce(OH)(3) in the PEO coating structure and the complex chelate of Mg(HQ)(2) in the silane layer lead to the active corrosion protection properties in the coating system.

Morphological Change and Open-circuit Potential of Single Metastable Pit on AA1050 Aluminum in NaCl Solution

Hiroshi Kakinuma et al.

Summary: The study clarified the relationship between the change in open-circuit potential (OCP) and the morphology of metastable pitting at Al-Fe-Si particles of AA1050 aluminum in 0.1 M NaCl. It was found that the pit grew in depth as the OCP decreased suddenly, started to grow on the Al surface, and then became repassivated with an increase in OCP. The transition from metastable to stable pitting was determined to occur gradually, with potential oscillations associated with the growth of many metastable pits.

Corrosion Inhibitor-Modified Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Coatings on 6061 Aluminum Alloy

Maciej Sowa et al.

Summary: A three-step method was proposed for forming oxide layers on aluminum alloys, which included AC plasma electrolytic oxidation, impregnation with organic corrosion inhibitor solution, and final sealing by DC treatment. The combination of impregnation and DC treatment improved corrosion resistance of the coatings, dispelling the notion that the inhibitor provision was unnecessary. However, there were issues with uniformity of the sealing for thicker coatings that need to be addressed for optimization in future efforts.

Influence of the replacement of silica by boron trioxide on the properties of bioactive glass scaffolds

Katharina Schuhladen et al.

Summary: The composition and structure of bioactive glasses play a crucial role in determining their dissolution properties and bioactivity. Adding boron trioxide into silicate glass leads to the formation of borosilicate glass with controlled degradation rate. Changing the network former affects the properties of the fabricated scaffolds.

Effect of Precipitation Hardening Treatment on Corrosion Behavior and Anodic Efficiency of Sacrificial Anode Produced from Recycled Al-Zn-Mg Alloy

Muazu Abubakar et al.

Summary: A sacrificial anode made from recycled aluminum and zinc was developed in this study, with characterization using XRD, TEM, and optical microscopy conducted. The influence of precipitation hardening time on the alloy's performance in seawater was investigated, showing that the formation of stable MgZn2 phase significantly affects the corrosion behavior. The high anodic efficiency of the alloy was attributed to the stable MgZn2 formation within the aluminum matrix.
