The anticorrosive performance and inhibition mechanism of [m-2HEA][Ol] in electrolytes with different concentrations of NaCl were studied using various techniques. The compound was found to act immediately after immersion by competing with chloride ions for adsorption on the steel surface, inhibiting the formation of metastable pits.
The anticorrosive performance and the inhibition mechanism of N-methyl-2-hydroxyethylammonium oleate,[m- 2HEA][Ol], in electrolytes with different concentrations of NaCl, was studied using the scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET), open circuit potential (OCP), polarization curve measurements, complemented by physicochemical analysis by Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDS) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) in attenuated total reflection (ATR). [m-2HEA][Ol] was found to act immediately after immersion due to adsorption on the steel surface competing with chloride ions. SVET and physicochemical analysis revealed the nucleation of metastable pits that were inhibited by the formation of iron complexes with moieties of ionic liquid.
