In-situ measurement on air-water flux of CH4, CO2 and their carbon stable isotope in lakes of northeast Tibetan Plateau

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: Inland waters serve as significant sources of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, with high-altitude saline lakes on the Tibetan Plateau showing high CH4 concentrations as sources to the atmosphere but acting as sinks for CO2. Salinity, fDOM, temperature, and dissolved oxygen are key factors influencing CH4 and CO2 diffusive fluxes in these lakes, with a distinctly different isotopic source values of CO2 and CH4 found in Qinghai Lake and Hala Lake.

Temporal and spatial variations of CO2 diffuse volcanic degassing on Cuicocha Caldera Lake - Ecuador

Daniel Sierra et al.

Summary: Cuicocha Caldera is the youngest eruptive center of Cotacachi-Cuicocha Volcanic Complex in northern Ecuador, characterized by CO2 gaseous emissions in its lake. Through measurements and data analysis, it has been found that CO2 release in Cuicocha Lake is influenced by seasonal changes and diffusing structures at the lake bottom, with anomalies possibly related to volcanic activity and seismic events.

Temperature affects carbon and nitrogen stable isotopic signatures of aquatic plants

Peiyu Zhang et al.

Summary: Temperature plays a key role in altering carbon and nitrogen isotopic signatures of aquatic plants, where nitrogen isotopes decrease significantly with rising temperature while carbon isotopes respond nonlinearly. Temperature can influence plant metabolism, photosynthesis, and the compositions and concentrations of carbon and nitrogen sources, leading to changes in plant isotopic signatures. Future studies should carefully consider the effects of temperature when interpreting the food contribution of aquatic plants in food webs and environmental changes.

The impact of COVID-19 lockdown on atmospheric CO2 in Xi'an, China

Shugang Wu et al.

Summary: The research shows that lockdown measures significantly reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions, leading to a decrease in CO2 concentrations in Xi'an, China. The sharp reduction in atmospheric CO2 during lockdown was temporary, returning to normal levels within months after the lockdown measures were lifted, highlighting the impact of traffic and industrial emissions on CO2 sources.
