Global value chains participation and carbon emissions: Evidence from Belt and Road countries

Qiaoling Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of GVCs participation on carbon emissions in B&R countries, analyzing the features of carbon emissions and GVCs participation. It finds a negative correlation between GVCs position and carbon emissions, and suggests that increasing forward GVCs participation can effectively reduce carbon emissions.

Evolution characters and regulation impacts within the global scrap rubber trade network

Wenwen Zhou et al.

Summary: This study constructed the global scrap rubber trade network and analyzed the regulatory impacts of developing countries on the network. The study found that the scrap rubber trade network has developed rapidly, with the main importing countries shifting from China to South Asia and Southeast Asia. The waste ban policies of India and China have impacted the exporting countries of scrap rubber such as the United States, Japan, and Australia.

Credibly reducing information asymmetry: Signaling on economic or environmental value by environmental alliances

Albert Jolink et al.

Summary: This article focuses on environmental alliances that aim to achieve economic profit while promoting environmental sustainability. The study shows that these alliances signal their position on the spectrum of economic and environmental value goals through announcements to reduce information asymmetry and enhance credibility. The research finds that alliances prefer to signal on either economic value or environmental value, rather than sending mixed messages, in order to achieve signal fit between external signals and latent alliance goals.

Static material flow analysis of neodymium in China

Jingxuan Geng et al.

Summary: This study focuses on conducting a static material flow analysis of neodymium in China to quantitatively analyze the industrial chain structure of neodymium and to calculate the neodymium output from illegal mining. The results show that a considerable amount of primary neodymium resources in China come from illegal mining, emphasizing the importance of recycling neodymium from end-of-life products to reduce illegal mining and meet the increasing demand for neodymium.

Global value chains, technological progress, and environmental pollution: Inequality towards developing countries

Shuhong Wang et al.

Summary: The study aims to achieve the dual effects of technological progress and energy conservation and emission reduction in developing countries' participation in global value chains through research on GVC, technological progress, and environmental pollution. The research findings suggest the existence of a value chain threshold in developing countries, where technological progress may lead to an increase in pollution below the threshold but can reduce emissions above it. These results provide a theoretical basis and practical suggestions for developing countries to realize green development while participating in globalized value chains.
